cleaning the oven  currently on third application of Mr Muscle  it stinks. Anyone got any better, easier, less smelly and less horrible on the environment alternatives??? :help: DH taken DS for a walk to give him some fresh air. Think I'll vacuum upstairs while they're out to get away from the smell! How my oven gets in that state I'm not sure, must be all those roast dinners!

have ya tried a microfibre cloth on it? If ya haven't then I admid I might sound like I'm mad, but I can clean inside of my oven door with just the cloth and water it's that good! (needs a bit more for main oven, but not too much more).

   Vi, if you could have seen my oven you'd know why that was so funny!! :D I love my microfibre cloths, and yes, they're brilliant for the door .... but the inside of my oven is like some kind of black hole into hell!! :wtf: When hot the roof drips brown gloopy, fatty gunk! Doesn't bother me too much, it's just burnt food and fat gasses and it's sterile, but I really fancied it not dripping!
The third application of the said hideously smelly Mr Muscle has made it OKish, I just need to figure out how to keep it that way ... and there's still no way I'm taking my precious microfibre cloths to it

 sounds bad hon! Maybe cook more stuff with lids on :shifty:  I just use my microfibre cloth and a bit of soapnut liquid on the oven and that does it, I don't even do it that often, so no ideas really. Sorry :getmycoat:

another 3 applications of Mr Muscle, and then a regular application of Mr Muscle (or maybe something a bit less aggressive......)

Used to have to dismantle, scrub and jet wash the insides of the ovens at work, not all at the same time of course, one or the other would usually do it, unless something got burnt!!!

 I think I might just need to remember to put roast dinners in a little sooner so I don't have to have the oven at full blast! But you know, you really can do roast chicken in an hour if necessary! Vi, yes, a lid would be good, just not a big fan of using too much foil. Your oven must be sooooo clean to just use a microfibre cloth! :wnw:

 Well it's got a non stick coating thingy on it, so it's supposed to stay clean anyway, but I do use it most days, can't really tell you how it stays cleanish it just kinda does. :| (I don't use foil on roasts either - never seen the need, just roast breast down for part of the time to keep the meat moist).

(Left over Roast chicken with mediteranean style veg today, also chicken stock - I bought 2 birds and jointed them out for the freezer - left over carcasses were roasted while I did the mediteranean vegies. Bones made stock and meat set aside for tomorrow's dinner - Chicken risotto which hubby will cook :claphigh: )

ooh, sounds yummy! :dribble: We had pizza last night - bit of smoked paprika in the tom/onion sauce (too much for DH, oops  ), bacon, sweet red pepper, mushrooms, mozzarella and home made oven-dried toms. Delish.
Finally got the chicken stock out of the stock pot to freeze so got the pheasant stock on the go. Must make more soup!
Sausages tonight, not sure what I'll do with them, but sausages are thawed in the fridge.

re self cleaning ovens ... I don't know why you wouldn't buy a self cleaning oven, I certainly wouldn't but this one was in the house when we moved in. I've no idea how they work either! Oven Magic!

Beetroot and chocolate cake yesterday, plus a loaf of bread today.

Beef stew last night in the pressure cooker.

EJT, pyro linings get so hot during the hottest heat in the oven when you put it on to clean that the dirt carbonises and then drops off. On normal oven it varnishes instead, and sticks. THey have a special coating on.

yeah that's the stuff. All you get is a few little bits of carbon blobs and dust to wipe off :)

 no, me neither! I wish  Oven not looking too bad now. The light is also a tad cleaner so I can actually see what's happening in there :claphigh:

Last night made carrot cake from HFW Everyday. Bit different to normal but SO light. Fantastic. Also made the Butternut squash and nut butter soup from same book. Oh and now in the process of making the split pea and ham soup too (I take soup to work during the week!) Don't think I've ever had a book I've made so many things from!

About to start marmalade assuming DS stays asleep long enough

Light... what light :wtf: Ours gave up the ghost a couple of years back and I've never bothered replacing it. Don't find I miss it particularly, and saves me a little electric not running it lol.

Do say how your split pea and ham soup turns out - I've tried a couple of recipes now and found one very bland and the other rediculously salty. :(

Vi, the split pea and ham can be a little bland, but with the chunks of ham in it it's really nice. Filling as well. Must be OK as I liked it enough last time to make it again :D I used an unsmoked gammon knuckle or hock or something. Fortunately the farm I get it from don't over salt so it's OK to cook without soaking first. Their bacon is the best I've ever had too.

Marmalade still on the go. Never use a recipe which said soak all the cut fruit overnight before, but it's quite handy to split the work over 2 days.

I spilt porridge in the combi today and it drove me to clean both ovens. My light now works, I can see through the doors, and it smells of lemon & vinegar in there.

How do you get the black carbon bits from the tiny lumps and bumps of the back of a glass microwave plate, then? So far, the only thing I can find that gets in there and gets them out is Mr Muscle oven cleaner, sad that it is.

Toad tonight, with onion gravy and cabbage if there is one, last year's lotty green beans in tomato sauce if not.

left over roast pork risotto for tonight and the beginnings of a beef stew going in the slow cooker for tomorrow night.

HM, I feel your pain. Hate Mr Muscle, but he does the job (eventually in my case, lol!)

Mine's going to need another go over, I think, too.

Twas cabbage, delic with butter and just a hint of nutmeg.

REMEMBER PEEPS - Pancake day tomorrow! We are having them for lunch - golden syrup and sultanas for the kids, sultanas and lemon and crunchy brown sugar for me.

Pizza's the day after. Evening Work Meeting so babysitter can pull them out the oven and feed the kids with them. I have to make 2 large ones, my kids are gannets and leave none from 2 x 12" pizza.

Doesn't the plate lift out? Mine does, and I stick it in the sink with the washing up lol. (or is this another thing where I should shut up now and keep walking  )

Made... dunno what ya'd call it actually :oldconfused: . Puff pastry rolled out, sprinkled with cheese, and then topped with lots of onion, bacon, mushroom and tomato slices and a final sprinkle of cheese. Very :yum: though ;)
